Ingredients:
- 1 box of chocolate cake mix
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 4 large egg yolks
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons butter
Instructions:
Grease a mini muffin tin and preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit 175 degrees Celsius
Mix the eggs, vegetable oil, and chocolate cake mix thoroughly in a bowl
Place one tablespoon of cake mixture into each muffin cup, and bake for ten to twelve minutes, or until the muffins bounce back when you touch them
Make the custard filling while the cake bites are baking
Whisk the milk, heavy cream, egg yolks, granulated sugar, and cornstarch in a saucepan over medium heat until it thickens, which should take five to seven minutes
After taking the custard off the stove, whisk in the vanilla extract
Give it time to cool
After the cake bites are cooked, take them out of the oven and allow them to cool for a short while
Next, make a well in each cake bite with a small spoon
Pour the cooled custard filling into each well
Melt the butter and semi-sweet chocolate chips in 20-second increments in a microwave-safe bowl, stirring in between, until smooth
Pour the chocolate sauce over the cake pieces that are filled with custard
Let it cool in the fridge for approximately half an hour before serving
